The Sawtooth Valley Rural Fire Department (SVRFD) is the only local fire department in Stanley, founded in the 1970’s. The Stanley Fire Volunteers are solely operated by donations and are not funded by local city or state funds.
The Wapiti Fire continues to burn land around Stanley, Idaho & Idaho Route 21.
The Wapiti Fire has burned ~126,000 acres of land according to Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team One. Crews are aggressively pursuing fire suppression as more resources arrive.
